Pasadena police are asking the public for help identifying a man accused of stealing a Louis Vuitton purse worth $2,800 from a Panera Bread restaurant after surveillance footage appeared to capture the theft in detail.
The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2026, at the Panera Bread located at 5855 W. Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena, Texas.
Police say the purse had accidentally been left on the back of a chair when the male suspect entered the restaurant. Investigators are now asking anyone who recognizes the person shown in the security footage to come forward.
The Pasadena Police Department shared the case on social media while asking residents, “Do you recognize this purse thief?” The department also joked about the suspect’s appearance, writing, “A Louis Vuitton definitely does not match his outfit.”
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Pasadena Police Department, the suspect appeared to notice the unattended purse while inside the restaurant.
Security footage reportedly shows the man sitting across from the purse before pushing a nearby chair into a position that helped block the item from view.
The suspect then continued eating his meal. Police say that toward the end of his visit, he obtained a brown paper to-go bag and placed it on a chair next to the purse.

Police say the purse was then placed inside the paper bag along with the suspect’s leftover food.
The department described the sequence as a deliberate concealment of the purse rather than an accidental taking.
“He then stands to block the bag from view,” the Pasadena Police Department stated in its public assistance notice, describing what investigators say can be seen in the surveillance footage.
The suspect eventually left the restaurant carrying the paper bag.
According to police, he did not attempt to notify restaurant employees that the purse had been left behind or turn the property over to staff before leaving.
The purse was valued at approximately $2,800, making the reported loss significant even before considering any personal belongings that may have been inside.

The security footage is central to the investigation because it reportedly captures several stages of the incident.
Police say the video shows the suspect sitting across from the purse, moving a chair to obstruct the view, positioning the paper bag beside the purse and then using his body to conceal the bag while taking the item.
That sequence is why investigators are asking the public to focus on recognizing the individual rather than simply determining what happened inside the restaurant.
The Pasadena Police Department characterized the incident in a tongue-in-cheek social media post as a “purse-napping,” adding that the suspect appeared to leave with more than the leftovers from his meal.
The department wrote, “If this is your boyfriend PPD Detective Teepe would like to speak with you,” as part of its appeal for information.
Detective R. Teepe is handling the investigation and is asking anyone who recognizes the man or has information about the incident to make contact with police.
