Professional Cornhole Player Dayton Webber Charged with First-Degree Murder in Maryland

Dayton Webber, a 27-year-old professional athlete in the American Cornhole League, has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Charles County, Maryland. Authorities allege Webber shot and killed 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells following an argument.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred while Webber and Wells were inside a vehicle. Two witnesses who were reportedly in the back seat of the SUV informed investigators that they saw the shooting take place.

According to police reports, Webber is accused of driving away with the victim's body after the shooting. The remains of Wells were later discovered in a residential yard on Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall.

The witnesses told authorities that Webber requested their assistance in disposing of the body, which they refused. They subsequently contacted law enforcement while Webber allegedly fled the scene in a Tesla SUV.

Webber was apprehended at a hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was being held as a fugitive of justice. He is currently awaiting extradition back to Maryland to face formal charges in the coming days.

The charges against Webber include first-degree murder and second-degree murder. Investigators are still working to determine the exact circumstances of the event and the motive behind the confrontation.

Webber is a well-known figure in the professional cornhole community, having competed on national platforms such as ESPN since the age of 16. He became a quadruple amputee at 10 months old due to a severe blood infection.

Public interest has centered on the logistics of the incident, given Webber’s physical condition as a quadruple amputee. The Charles County Sheriff's Office stated that while the investigation is early, evidence suggests Webber acted alone during the incident.

The American Cornhole League released a statement expressing condolences to the family of the victim. They described the matter as extremely serious and stated they would respect the ongoing judicial process during this time.

Social media footage previously shared by Webber showed him operating handguns, which investigators are currently reviewing as part of the case. The league indicated it will provide further updates as more information becomes available through legal proceedings.
