They went to a house party to have fun. Police say two teens turned it into an armed trap.

Two 19-year-old men face felony charges after a violent armed robbery left young partygoers shaken up in Riverside County.

When you send your kids to a weekend party, you expect them to come home safe. You do not expect them to face the barrel of a gun.

What Happened

A normal weekend gathering in the quiet neighborhood of Woodcrest took a dark turn. Police say a group of young people were hanging out when a couple of guests drew weapons.

The suspects forced the victims to the ground. They took jewelry, cell phones, and cash by force.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department tracked down the two 19-year-old suspects days later. Both teens now sit in jail on high bail.

What the Evidence Shows

  • 2 suspects arrested, both 19 years old.
  • 1 loaded handgun found during the arrests.
  • Multiple victims held at gunpoint.
  • Hundreds of dollars in cash and phones taken.
  • Bail set at $1 million for the main suspect.

The Bigger Question

Why are we seeing more neighborhood gatherings turn into violent crime scenes? It used to be that the biggest worry at a youth party was loud music. Now, families must worry about armed robberies and guns.

The Other Side

The defense has not yet shared its side of the story. In court, lawyers will likely ask how victims identified the suspects in a dark, busy home. With a loaded gun found on them, though, the defense faces a tough fight.

What Happens Now

The two young men remain in jail as they wait for their trial. Local parents are asking for more police patrols in areas where big youth parties are common.

What We Still Don't Know

  • Did the suspects know the victims before that night?
  • Where did the teens get the loaded handguns?
  • Were there other people who helped plan the robbery?
