Simi Valley Man Arrested After Police Use Pepperball and K-9 Unit

A 33 year old Simi Valley man was taken into custody on Saturday morning following a confrontation with law enforcement that required specialized tactics. The incident took place on January 3 at a residence located in the 1000 block of Treadwell Avenue. According to a news release from the Simi Valley Police Department, the arrest followed a period of non compliance where the man refused to leave the premises or cooperate with responding officers.

Tactical Intervention at Treadwell Avenue

Officers arrived at the home to handle a reported disturbance but were met with significant resistance. After several attempts to resolve the situation through verbal commands and negotiation, the man still refused to exit the building. Because of his continued defiance, officers utilized a pepperball projectile, which is a non lethal device designed to release a chemical irritant upon impact. This tool is often used to compel a suspect to move into a position where they can be more easily and safely apprehended.

Despite the use of the pepperball, the suspect did not immediately surrender. To bring the standoff to a close without a more serious escalation, a police K-9 was deployed into the home. The canine officer was able to successfully contact and subdue the man, allowing patrol officers to move in and place him in handcuffs.

Evaluation and Subsequent Booking

Following the arrest, the suspect was evaluated for minor injuries sustained during the K-9 deployment. He was then transported to the Ventura County Main Jail where he was booked on multiple charges. While the initial reason for the police presence has not been fully detailed, the man now faces counts of resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.

The Simi Valley Police Department noted that no officers or bystanders were injured during the operation. The use of these specific tools is part of the department’s commitment to using the least amount of force necessary to resolve dangerous or unpredictable situations. Investigators remained on the scene for several hours after the arrest to interview neighbors and process evidence related to the original call for service.
