Social Media Activity of NYC First Lady Rama Duwaji Under Scrutiny Following Investigative Report

Rama Duwaji, the wife of recently inaugurated New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, has faced significant scrutiny following an investigative report detailing her historical social media activity. The report focused on posts from an account that was deactivated shortly after the findings were published.

The investigation, published in mid-March 2026, linked an X account and a Tumblr blog to Duwaji through biographical details and cross-referenced photographs. These posts reportedly date back to 2013 through 2017, when Duwaji was between the ages of 15 and 20.

Authenticated screenshots from the now-deleted account show the use of racial slurs and homophobic language. One specific post from 2013 includes an ethnic epithet, while another expresses frustration with individuals on another social media platform using disparaging terms.

The report also highlighted past statements regarding Middle Eastern geopolitics. These included criticisms of Israel and posts praising historical figures associated with militant groups.

Public records indicate the account in question was deactivated on March 19, 2026, within 24 hours of the report’s publication. The account now displays a message stating that it no longer exists.

Mayor Mamdani’s office has not released a formal statement regarding the specific content of the posts. The Mayor has previously described his wife as a private person who holds no official role within his administration.

Duwaji is a professional illustrator and animator with a significant presence on other social media platforms. Her primary Instagram account currently remains active and has not been deactivated.

This development has prompted diverse reactions across the political spectrum. Some observers suggest that teenaged posts should be viewed with a different standard than adult conduct, while others argue the content remains relevant.

The controversy emerges during the early months of Mayor Mamdani’s term. Mamdani, a prominent figure in the Democratic Socialists of America, was inaugurated in January 2026 following a successful mayoral bid.

The scrutiny follows earlier reports concerning Duwaji’s social media interactions in late 2023. At that time, her engagement with content regarding international conflicts drew attention from several media outlets.
