A South LA neighborhood lost its church home to a sudden morning fire

Firefighters fought a two-hour blaze that collapsed the roof of the Greater New Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church on Broadway Street.

For decades, local families came here to find peace. Now, they are left standing outside a hollow shell of ruined brick and ash.

The fire started early Monday morning in South Los Angeles. Urgent calls went out just after 5:00 a.m. about the two-story building on Broadway Street.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy flames shooting from the top floor. They had to fight the fire from the outside because the roof was weak.

The battle lasted for two hours before crews put out the flames. Part of the roof fell into the building during the fight.
