Imagine being 250 miles up in the sky and hearing air hiss out of your home. You have nowhere to run but a tiny ship.

WHAT HAPPENED

NASA told the crew on the space station to get ready to leave. The air leaks are in a Russian part called the Prichal.

The ship is getting old. The metal is starting to crack and wear down.

The bosses are worried the leaks are too big to fix. They want the crew ready to jump into their escape ships fast.

WHAT THE EVIDENCE SHOWS

Leaks are in the Russian Prichal part.

  • NASA put the alert at the top level.
  • The ship has been in space for 25 years.
  • Doors must stay shut to save air.
  • Escape ships are ready to go.

THE BIGGER QUESTION

We spent a lot of money to build a home in the stars. But did we wait too long to build a new one?

Now, the safety of our best minds depends on old metal and tape. We have to ask if we are pushing this old ship too far.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW

If the leaks get faster, the crew will have to leave for good. This would end years of work.

It would also leave the world without a lab in space. Regular people would lose the chance to see what we can learn from the stars.

WHAT WE STILL DON'T KNOW

How fast is the air leaking right now?

  • Can the ship stay up if that one part is shut off?
  • How soon can a rescue ship get everyone home?
