Shared widely by accounts including @DramaAlert and covered in entertainment reporting, the clip has drawn attention for one clear reason: the production is treating this physical stunt work as the direct reference material for its CGI pipeline.
Rather than asking animators to invent a digital character swinging through a fully computer-generated cityscape, director Destin Daniel Cretton’s team is capturing real-world momentum, the natural drag of gravity, and the sharp jerks that occur when a wire catches a human body. Those real movements become the blueprint. Visual effects artists then overlay the iconic suit onto motion that already obeys the laws of physics.
As reported by Den of Geek in coverage of an official behind-the-scenes featurette, Tom Holland described the results with clear enthusiasm: “This is some of the best action that we’ve had in any of these movies. And we shot the most stunts on the day in camera.” Cretton, speaking in the same featurette, added: “Shooting that opening action sequence was really exhilarating… Putting Spider-Man on the street with cars exploding, it’s just so awesome.”
This approach matters because weight has been the quiet casualty of the digital age. Pure keyframe animation often produces characters that accelerate too quickly, stop too abruptly, and fall too slowly. The human eye is highly sensitive to these subtle violations of physics. When they appear, the illusion breaks. By anchoring the visual effects in actual stunt performance, Brand New Day is actively pushing back against the uncanny valley that has flattened so many recent superhero sequences.
The choice of director reinforces the shift. Cretton previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, a film praised for its tactile martial-arts choreography and the seamless blend of physical stunt rigs with digital environments. According to comments reported via TIME, he brought that same sensibility to Spider-Man: “We brought a lot of our stunt team from ‘Shang-Chi’ onto the project… The goal was to try to get as much in-camera as we possibly could. Looking back twenty-five years makes the change clearer. As technology improved, later films moved almost entirely into computers. Entire action sequences were built digitally before actors ever stepped on set.
