The Charges, The Suspects, The Case
Kody Townsend, a Rollin' 100s Neighborhood Crip, is charged with using an AR-style assault rifle to shoot and kill Reginald Foreman, a Rollin' 111s Crip, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
In case 26CJCF07162, Townsend is charged with one count of murder, one felony count of conspiracy to commit a crime, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Jeremiah James Abdelhameed is charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact.
It is further alleged that Townsend killed the 51-year-old victim by means of lying in wait, and that Townsend intentionally killed the victim while an active participant in a criminal street gang and that the murder was carried out to further the activities of the criminal street gang.
The Shooting, The Outreach Work, The Arrest
On Aug. 6, at approximately 3:13 p.m., the victim was working with two other 2nd Call employees when Townsend allegedly walked up to the group and shot and killed him.
Foreman worked for 2nd Call, a restorative justice and gang prevention program, and was carrying out his duties in the community at the time of the shooting, District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said.

Abdelhameed is accused of meeting with Townsend after the killing and helping him to avoid capture.
"Gang violence doesn't just claim lives; it robs entire communities of their sense of security and safety," Hochman said. "Mr. Foreman worked for 2nd Call, a restorative justice and gang prevention program, and was carrying out his duties in the community when the defendant allegedly shot and killed him. This kind of violence has no place in our communities and will not be tolerated. Our office's Gang Homicide Division will hold these individuals accountable for the devastation they've caused."
The Penalties, The Prosecution, The Next Step
If convicted as charged, Townsend faces life in prison and Abdelhameed faces seven years in prison.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Townsend, and his arraignment will be scheduled at a later date.
Abdelhameed is in custody, and his arraignment was scheduled for Nov. 6 in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
Deputy District Attorney Henry Truong of the Gang Homicide Division is prosecuting the case, and the Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide Division is investigating.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division.
