Universal Orlando Video Release Provides Details on Stardust Racers Fatality

Investigative records and recently released video footage have provided new details concerning the death of a guest at Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe. The footage documents the final moments of a 32-year-old man on one of the park’s premier attractions.
Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, a resident of Kissimmee, Florida, died following an incident on the Stardust Racers roller coaster. The event occurred on September 17, 2025, during the inaugural year of the new theme park.
Medical examiner reports released in conjunction with the investigation confirm that Zavala’s death was accidental. The primary cause of death was listed as multiple blunt impact injuries sustained during the high-speed ride.
Reports indicate that the victim struck his head several times while the vehicle was in motion. Zavala became unresponsive immediately following the conclusion of the ride and was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has officially closed its investigation into the matter. Law enforcement officials concluded that no criminal acts occurred and that the incident did not involve foul play.
Public interest in the case intensified this week after the New York Post published details regarding the newly available video. The footage was released as part of a standard public records request following the closure of the case.
Stardust Racers is a dual-launch coaster known for high speeds and maneuvers where tracks cross closely. It is a centerpiece of the Celestial Park area of Epic Universe, which opened in 2025.
Universal Orlando Resort has not issued a new public statement following the video release. Safety protocols for attractions remain under continuous review by Florida regulatory agencies and theme park safety officials.
Theme park safety experts note that fatalities on modern roller coasters are extremely rare. The industry continues to monitor the medical examiner's findings to ensure rider safety remains at the highest standard.
As of Monday, March 30, 2026, the ride continues to operate under its standard safety guidelines. Local authorities maintain that the accidental ruling concludes the legal inquiry into the event.
