Ventura County Sheriff Launches New SB 54 Compliance Dashboard

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has officially launched a public dashboard to track SB 54 compliance. This new tool is designed to provide transparency regarding interactions with federal immigration agents.

Senate Bill 54 generally prohibits local police from participating in federal immigration enforcement. However, it allows limited communication with ICE regarding individuals convicted of serious or violent felonies.

The dashboard provides real-time data on how many ICE requests the jail receives. It also tracks how many incarcerated individuals met the strict legal criteria for a transfer.

To protect privacy, the dashboard does not list the names of the individuals involved. Instead, it provides demographics, the nature of the crime, and a brief narrative of the case.

Sheriff’s officials emphasized that they do not proactively report individuals to ICE. They only respond to specific requests when an inmate has committed a qualifying serious offense.

The Sheriff’s Office cannot hold any individual past their court-ordered release date. If ICE agents are not present at the time of release, the individual is set free.

The dashboard also clarifies that the Sheriff's Office does not assist with ICE arrests in public areas. This includes arrests made in jail lobbies or parking lots by federal agents.

The department recommends viewing the dashboard on a desktop computer for the best experience. It is part of a broader effort to build trust and provide the community with factual data.
