VCFD Stops Attic Fire in Moorpark Neighborhood

MOORPARK, CA — Quick action by the Ventura County Fire Department saved a two-story home on Kernvale Avenue Tuesday afternoon. 

At approximately 3:50 PM on March 3, 2026, fire crews responded to reports of smoke rising from a single-family residence in the 15400 block.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed thick smoke venting from the attic of the structure

 Recognizing the risk of the fire spreading through the home’s upper frame, teams launched an "aggressive attack" to keep the flames contained to the attic space.

**Incident Details

• The Response: Approximately 40 firefighters arrived on the scene, utilizing ladder trucks to gain access to the roof and interior attack lines to hit the seat of the fire.
• The Knockdown: Thanks to the rapid deployment, the main body of the fire was knocked down shortly after crews entered the building.
• Roof Operations: Firefighters spent significant time on the roof cutting ventilation holes and checking the structural beams to ensure no "extension," hidden embers or heat pockets remained in the insulation.

Safety and Status

The VCFD confirmed that no injuries were reported among the residents or the responding fire personnel. 

All occupants were able to evacuate the home safely before the fire intensified.

As of Wednesday morning, the cause of the fire is under investigation. Investigators are looking into whether the blaze started due to electrical issues in the attic or if it migrated there from a lower floor.
