A woman was killed crossing a Palmdale street, and police need help finding out what happened
Deputies are looking into the crash after a Ford Explorer SUV hit a person walking on Tierra Subida Avenue late Sunday night.
Every day, we trust that a simple walk across the street will bring us home safe. For one Palmdale resident, that trust ended in a dark crossing.
What Happened
Late Sunday night, a woman was crossing the street near Tierra Subida and Date Palm Drive in Palmdale. Around 11 p.m., a Ford Explorer SUV struck her.
Emergency crews rushed her to Antelope Valley Hospital. Doctors tried to save her, but her injuries were too severe, and she died.
Police are still trying to figure out exactly why the crash happened. They have not released the name of the woman who died.
What the Evidence Shows
- The crash occurred just before 11:00 p.m. on June 2.
- It happened on Tierra Subida near Date Palm Drive in Palmdale.
- The vehicle involved was a Ford Explorer SUV.
- The victim died at Antelope Valley Hospital.
- Deputies have not released the victim's name yet.
The Bigger Question
Why are our streets still so dangerous for people on foot? As our cities grow, safety for walkers often takes a back seat to fast car traffic.
We must ask ourselves if our roads are built to keep people safe or just to move cars fast. This loss of life shows we need better lights and safer crossings on busy streets.
The Other Side
Police have not said if the driver was speeding, distracted, or doing anything wrong. The driver's full side of the story is not yet public because police are still looking into the facts.
Right now, there is not enough public evidence to blame the driver or the walker for the crash.
What Happens Now
Local deputies are still working on the case. They want anyone who saw the crash or has video of it to help.
If you know anything, you can call the Palmdale Station Traffic Department at 661-272-2400. Your call could help a grieving family get answers.
What We Still Don't Know
- Who was the woman who lost her life?
- Was the driver speeding or using a phone when the crash occurred?
- Will the city make this crossing safer for walkers in the future?
